This (book) rant is about Warrior Cats vs. Guardians of Ga'Hoole. (I apologize if I spelled "Ga'Hoole" wrong.)
Warrior Cats, the better known of the two, starts out with a cat named Rusty who wants to leave the neighborhood and be a "wild" cat in the woods. Eventually he find the Clans. The Clans are four different.....tribes(?) of cats roaming around the areas unpopulated by two legs (humans). Its a likable series (though its extremely long and repetitive). However, what really annoys me about these books, is that there is a clear line between the good and evil cats. The same clan (Shadow Clan) is ALWAYS bad, and the same clan (Thunder Clan) is ALWAYS good. The books would be better if the writers (Erin Hunter is actually 3 different people) made characters with more depth and weren't just always the same way for no reason.
Guardians of Ga'Hoole is about a barn owl named Soren who becomes the victim of an evil plot to take over the owl world. (He is kidnapped and taken to become a brainwashed slave of the evil owls.) He and his friends escape to Ga'Hoole where the good owls live. The rest of the series is about him living in Ga'Hoole and defeating the bad guys. Its a very amateurish writing style, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you are looking for an easy read while learning about different kinds of owls. And yet again, the characters lack depth. His friends all have outrageous, exaggerated personalities and some how manage to live together peacefully. Also, I saw ever plot twist the writer tried to throw coming.
Rusty and Soren (the main characters of the two book series) are both do-gooders. Neither of them have ever done anything wrong, and they always know what the right and moral thing to do is. They are so highly advanced in their understanding or right and wrong, that most of the people around them can't keep up or oppose them. IT. DRIVES. ME. CRAZY. I HATE those two, because they go so over the top in their forgiveness and nice deeds. In that respect, the books are completely off from reality. If some one like that existed in modern day (or really in human society) they would be seen as obnoxious know-it-alls, who ALWAYS do the right thing no matter what it costs to them personally. But some how, they are supposed to be respected and loved by the other characters and readers.
Both of these books are popular and loved by a lot of little kids. I even read them when I was younger. But now that I'm older, I find the characters insufferable and they ruin the plot for me.....uh, yah. I don't know how to end this, so I'll just end it rather abruptly. Bye
